Kenya Airways Suspends Operations in 8 African Countries, Blames COVID-19

Kenya Airways (KQ) has suspended operations in eight African routes, after experiencing a deep downturn, which it attributes to the COVID19 Pandemic. In a statement to newsrooms, KQ said that the drastic decline in revenues has had a debilitating effect on the airline’s ability to continue operations. “The immediate outlook of the industry is not promising. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) projects that air travel will most likely take 2-3 years to recover to 2019 levels,” said KQ. Manganese Mining Halted in Luano

A group of illegal manganese miners in Chingola’s Luano area have been directed to halt operations until they obtain relevant documentation for mining activities. Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo who visited the site was in shock that some illegal manganese mining activities were taking place in Luano. He said the group had been directed to immediately stop operations and asked them to formalize their status. The Governments of Sierra Leone have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Liberia to jointly manage the protection of the Gola Rainforest National Park on Tuesday 18 February 2020 at the C. Cecil Dennis Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liberia. Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Samking Koihinah Braima, signed on behalf of Sierra Leone, and Liberia’s Foreign Minister Gbezhongar Findley signed on behalf of Liberia.
