The Niger State federal government on Thursday said that it would support the Smallholder Women Farmers Company of Nigeria (SWOFON) in the state with inputs and executes for 2020 farming season.
Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Federal government, mentioned this while answering questions from farming reporters in Minna.
“The focus of Niger state government this year is to mobilise ladies, farmer groups.
“Any ladies group into farming will be supported to get the readily available inputs and carries out to participate in farming activities,” Matane stated.
He stated that in order to realise food security of the state and the country, there was a requirement to bring the females farmers along.
“The Niger state federal government understood that if you empower ladies they will be able to supply food for their families, the state and the nation at large,” Matane said.Mrs Mary Hamzaranda, the state Planner SWOFON informed NAN that COVID-19, insecurity, insufficient financing and absence of federal government support were a few of the obstacles dealing with ladies farmers in the state.
NAN reports that SWOFON, with over 10,228 signed up members in the state, is a union of ladies farmer groups throughout Nigeria, representing over 500,000 grassroots females farmers.
It will be remembered that in order to tackle the obstacles of all categories of farmers in Niger, the state federal government on June 4 inaugurated the 2020 farming season.
The federal government likewise supplied aids for important farming inputs to all farmers in the state including ladies farmers.
